Medical Equipment

Medical equipment help to diagnose, treat and monitor medical conditions. The design of these equipments requires adhering to strict safety standards. Medical equipment have brought about a great revolution in the way diseases and ailments are diagnosed and treated and are a great boon to the medical community. They ensure accuracy and perfection to the highest extent and make sure that patients are given value service for their money.

Types of medical equipment:
Diagnostic equipment: These equipments are used to diagnose the type of ailment or disease. Examples of these are Ultrasound, MRI, CT scanners, X ray machines and PET machines. Each of these have a separate scientific principle based on which they function and serve a specific purpose. For example if you have had a fracture then an X-ray is the best option. This machine would scan the area and show exactly as to which bone is broken whether it is an hairline fracture or a major one. An ultrasound for example will also give an exact picture of the fractured bone. Ultrasounds are mainly used during pregnancy and give a picture of the fetus inside.

Therapeutic equipment:
These include infusion pumps, lasers and surgical equipment. In case a person is dehydrated due to excessive diarrhea or vomiting, an infusion pump may be used to intravenously supply glucose and other nutrients into the circulatory system. Lasers are used mainly for eye surgery to correct myopia, cataract and many other eye problems

Life support equipment:
These are used to sustain a life when basic bodily functions are not functioning. For example, ventilators, dialysis machines, ECMO and heart lung machines.

Medical monitors:
This equipment is used to help test the patient’s medical state. Monitors may measure parameters like ECG, EEG, blood pressure etc. For example for care of a premature baby, an incubator is used and several medical equipment are kept to check if the child’s heart beat is normal, temperature is normal and so forth. The baby is continuously monitored till the doctor certifies that it may live on its own and is handed to the parents or guardian.

Medical laboratory equipment may include microscopes etc help in analyzing blood, urine, etc. Medical equipment have become so important that we cannot do without them. The advancement in science and medicine has helped us a great deal and we should say that because of the assistance of several medical equipments, the average age of an individual has drastically increased. There is a way to find out any disorder or ailment much in advance if we are careful and take care to visit our medical practitioner regularly. It is also very important to make sure that sufficient precautions are used while using medical equipment. Only persons trained in the same will be able to check accurately and get accurate results. Though electronic machines may seem perfect and excellent to us, regular calibration, conformance to standards is very necessary to get accurate results. While using lasers and X-rays one needs to be very careful since these rays are sometimes harmful hence necessary steps need to be taken.
